What We Do - Testing - Recording - Reporting - Protesting

Testing the Water
We have trained dozens of river-lovers to methodically test, systematically measure and collectively report the readings of water quality samples taken near farmland, above and below combined storm overflows and in former glorious swimming and sporting spots along the river. We currently have regular testing from beneath Usk all the way up to Brecon. We will continuously monitor the water quality and share it with our scientists for analysis and collation. We are always looking for more volunteers. |
Collation and Analysis
The data we collect and report to Epicollect Database is analysed and collated by our researchers, Dr. David Lee of South Wales University and Nathalie Nicolas of Cardiff University. We are currently taking measurements of temperature, river level, phosphates, nitrates and conductivity. Emma Hayhurst will be assisting us in testing for e. coli in the near future. |

Without the support of a concerned community, we cannot combat the pollution that is poisoning our river. We greatly appreciate the generous time and effort that Dr. Lee and Nathalie are contributing to our campaign to save the river. Together we can all make a difference. Won't you join us? |
What are Phosphates ?
Phosphates are chemical compounds containing phosphorous which is a natural occuring nutrient for plant and animal growth. Too much phosphate causes excessive algae growth, turning rivers green killing fish and plants. How does it get in the River? Phosphates enter the river by human and animal waste via sewage and agricultural slurry. They are also found in grey water from our drains from food debris and cleaning products. Phoshates are present in most fertilisers. Rain run-off from fertilised fields transports it into rivers. |
Recording and Reporting Pollution
Photographing and reporting river abuse is critical to gaining a proper response from the public, government, water companies and polluters. Aren't you getting tired of all this sh@t?!!!
Make sure you have the following details:

Why we protest
By protesting, we alter the agenda and start a debate! Those in power may try to ignore us, but with persistence, they will feel the need to come up with reasons why all of the protesters are wrong. We are not wrong! Saving our rivers is a small step to saving our planet. Those who dismiss our demands and continue to threaten the environment must be held accountable through fines and penalties. Those who are not imposing those fines and penalties must be removed from their postitions. There is nothing as compelling as a group of like-minded humans coming together to make change.
